About Smart Security Group
A specialist fire and security engineering subcontractor built on the principles of competency, compliance and professionalism.
Built from the ground up.
Smart Security Group Ltd was incorporated in April 2023. We started small — two engineers, a clear service offering, and a commitment to doing the work properly. From that foundation, we have grown to a team of around twenty operational personnel delivering fire and security subcontract works across commercial sites in London and beyond.
Our model is straightforward: we provide skilled, card-holding labour to main contractors and electrical/security firms who need reliable subcontract engineers. We do not supply equipment or materials — we supply expertise. That focus means our engineers are specialists, not generalists.
Growth has been driven by the quality of our output on site. Main contractors who place a first purchase order tend to come back. We take that as the most meaningful measure of how we operate.
We are based in Cuffley, Hertfordshire, and work predominantly on commercial projects across London and the South East.
Incorporated
Smart Security Group Ltd registered at Companies House. Director: Stephen Lowe. Initial focus on access control and data cabling subcontract works.
First Commercial Contracts
First purchase orders placed by main contractors. Team of two grows to six as demand builds.
Service Capability Added
Guy Buckton joins as Head of Service & Small Works. SSG begins delivering maintenance and reactive call-out alongside new installation work.
SafeContractor Accreditation
SafeContractor membership achieved. Team grows to ~15 operational engineers. High-profile project references established.
~20 Engineers
Team reaches approximately twenty operational personnel. Active projects across access control, CCTV, IAS, fire alarm interfaces and structured cabling.
Labour-only subcontracting.
SSG operates as a labour-only subcontractor. We do not supply, procure or manage materials or equipment. We provide skilled engineers, working to a specification and programme agreed with the main contractor or client.
This model works particularly well for main contractors and electrical/security firms who have project management capacity but need reliable, qualified installation labour — especially at short notice or for surge capacity on larger contracts.
We produce site-specific Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for every project, and our engineers work under clear Purchase Orders with defined scope and rates. Onboarding is efficient — we can mobilise quickly.
Key personnel.
Stephen founded Smart Security Group in 2023 and leads the business from business development through to commercial and operational oversight. He works directly with main contractors to scope projects, agree terms and ensure delivery meets expectations. Stephen is the primary contact for all new business and client relationships.
Joe oversees installation quality and technical standards across all SSG projects. He ensures that work delivered on site meets the relevant British Standard, the client's specification, and SSG's own internal quality requirements. Joe is the point of escalation for technical queries during live projects and supports commissioning and handover documentation.
Guy manages SSG's service and small works function — reactive callouts, planned maintenance and minor installation works across existing client sites. He coordinates engineer deployment for service instructions and ensures visit reports and remedial recommendations are delivered promptly to clients.
Our values.
Compliance
We install to the relevant British Standard. Every time. RAMS are produced for every project. ECS and CSCS cards are held by every engineer. Compliance is not optional — it is the baseline.
Competency
Our engineers are specialists in the systems they install. We do not send multi-trade generalists to fire and security projects. Competency means knowing the job before you arrive on site.
Professionalism
We communicate clearly, produce accurate documentation, and behave professionally on site. Main contractors should not have to chase us. If there is a problem, we raise it — we do not hide it.
